Our Story

Started by travellers, written for travellers.

OtakuTyan began in 2019 as a shared notebook between a handful of friends who kept emailing each other the same advice. It grew into a small editorial team and a network of local contributors on six continents.

Every guide is written or reviewed by someone who has spent real time on the ground. We update our most-read pages at least once a year, and we tell you when we last checked.

What We Value

How we work

Independent & honest

We don't sell trips or take payment for coverage. If a place isn't worth your time, we say so.

Local knowledge

Our contributors live where they write. That's how you get the alley, not just the landmark.

Travel that lasts

We favour slower, lower-impact travel and give practical advice on treading lightly.
